As I mentioned in my last posting, we have had more losses over the last 18 months at Alba Ranch.

From the LDGs we lost Willow, Rachel and Ike. Willow we lost in a predator attack, which also injured Rachel. None of the goats were injured, but we were devastated by the loss of Willow.

She was a wonderful dog who seemed to be equally at ease either out side with her goats, or inside being mam’s girl.

Some time after that we had to say goodbye to Rachel, then later Ike, both because of behavioral issues when they has at separate times attacked Kiara – a rescued LDG that we had found to help out.

From the house dogs we had to say good bye first to Nutmeg and Cinnamon.

They were two of the seven Border Collies that we had taken with us from Scotland, first to Colorado, then to Michigan. The Girls were 14 years old and their health was starting to deteriorate dramatically.

Then we had to say goodbye to poor Rick. He tried his best but I think that the emotional issues that he had from the abuse of his original owners  was just too much for him to cope with. Although he was with us probably for the shortest time it was, for me, that hardest decision of all. There was a truly sweet dog in that head of his, but it had a constant battle with an alter ego that was frighteningly unpredictable. Even medication didn’t help.
