Yes, I know, I’m a little out of sync as I normally do these posts on a Sunday. Well, I’m a little early so deal with it!

This is coming into my favorite time of year in Michigan. The colours are starting to change as we get into fall. Soon we will have our first frost which will kill off the last of the mosquitos and life will be all peachy until the snow starts to fall! Best two weeks of the year! Honestly, I revel in this time

Every week I’m home I probably post a photo of the Lavender Stone Circle. It was one of the first areas we created. It was a stone circle before it was surrounded by lavender. It was a stone circle before there was thyme growing everywhere. It is in essence a spur of the moment creation before anything else was even a concept. So, I will make no apologies for posting yet another photograph!

The flower beds, or specifically, the ‘block beds’, were much later in the planning than the stone circle. We have tried to plant them such that there is something of interest from as early in the year til as late as possible. Here we are in the last week of September and the is still colour.

Over to the other side of the property now, at the pond. The water level is still low. I think we are still debating on whether to fill up the pond or drain it down again to try to expand it. I’d like to expand it a bit more, but part of me is in the dead space of, if we wait to expand it, we’ll never have a pond. I resolve to make a decision this winter!

The start of the ‘pond road’ is probably the most photographed location on the property, primarily because it is just ‘there’. Just as you come in the driveway, at the front of the house, facing you. It’s obvious, it leads your eye, it’s just there. I should dig through the archives and compile a post of the changes in this one view. Not as dramatic a change as some other views, but a steady progression from very overgrown to what we have now. Now, by no stretch of the imagination do I think that what we have now is the best… just, it IS what we have now thanks to Consumers Power.

So, when we had the full moon I went out and took some photographs. Yes, I have a fancy digital SLR, but to be honest, I haven’t used it in three or four years. Now, I understand that the lens and sensor on my phone MAY not be as good as my camera. However my camera is 15 years old now and my phone is only 4 years old. But the biggest difference is in the software in the phone which absolutely gets the best out of the phone’s camera sensor. Honestly, I am still stunned at the quality of image that is achievable with minimum messing around with settings. I also have a major geek feeling that the camera sensor on the phone is branded ‘Hasselblad’. As a side note, yes I also took a photo of the stone circle at the same time, but this view is looking in the opposite direction for a change.

Well, here I am off the ranch for some errands and I spot another random unusual vehicle. What looks like a GMC Tahoe / Chevy Suburban chop and weld. An extra set of doors and row of seats on a vehicle that must be knocking on 22 feet long. Doesn’t look like they got the same trim of middle doors which suggests that’s the ‘extra’ part of the vehicle. Looks cool, but that doesn’t mean I’d like to have it in my garage!

A quick shot of the courtyard beds. The climbing rose is starting to work along the top of the trellis, which kinda was the point.

Down at the opposite end of the cultivated area from the courtyard beds, the perennial sunflowers have pretty much taken over. We will have to thin them out this winter.

Over in the goat pen Latte and Bella are having a bit of a breather and a time out as they are normally headbutting each other.
